Boring Company Ring Builder

A tunnel boring machine advances by building. The segment erector sets six curved precast segments around the bore, then locks the ring with a wedge-shaped key segment — and the machine jacks off that completed ring to drive forward. Build the ring, set the key, advance. Each ring is a metre of Mars street, rehearsed in red rock.

Why this exists. A tunnel isn't dug, it's assembled — and the same Boring-Company method that lines a ring on Earth becomes, on Mars, the shielded corridor between sealed domes. This prototype is the smallest playable piece of the Flat Mars thesis: the machine that turns hostile rock into protected street. ← Back to all inventions
